Why isn’t the keyboard ABC?
QWERTY grew out of a machine with metal arms, ink, paper, and a lot of experiments—then the world learned it together.

The ridges on F and J mark where your index fingers belong. From those two anchors, the rest of the keyboard has a predictable direction.

The space bar is built for rhythm.
Nearly every word needs a gap after it. A wide key gives either thumb a generous target without pulling your fingers away from the letters.

Spaces separate words, making this one of the most repeated motions in ordinary typing.
